The smaller drum, known as the dayan or tabla, is used for creating treble and tonal sounds, while the larger drum, called the baya or dagga, is used for producing bass tones. The two drums work together to create the beautiful and intricate rhythms that tabla players are known for.

The tabla is indeed the most famous percussion instrument in North India, known for its intricate rhythms and versatility. While it is commonly used in North Indian classical music, its adaptability has made it popular in various musical styles across all of India. The tabla’s unique sound and rhythmic capabilities have truly made it a beloved instrument in Indian music.
